Mirzakhani Circle

Mirzakhani Circle students at the Mustang Math Tournament – April 2026

The Mirzakhani Circle is a selective, no-cost educational program run by the A-Star Foundation in collaboration with AlphaStar Academy. We empower talented female middle and high school students across the United States and Canada by fostering a vibrant community of mathematical thinkers who thrive on tackling challenging problems in a collaborative environment.

Program Overview

The program provides a space for students to grow through collaborative problem-solving and shared mathematical interests. The 2026–27 cycle features:

  • Monthly Online Sessions: Held from September through March on Fridays (5:00–6:30 PM PT). These sessions focus on collaborative learning, lectures, and building a supportive environment where students can help each other progress.
  • Bay Area In-Person Events: For students in the San Francisco Bay Area, we host occasional in-person gatherings like math activities and board game nights to strengthen local community ties.
  • Competitive Teams: Selected participants will have the opportunity to represent the Mirzakhani Circle in some prestigious math competitions such as Berkeley mini Math Tournament, Berkeley Math Tournament, and Mustang Math Tournament.

Eligibility

The program is open to female students in the USA and Canada and is designed for:

  • Middle & High School Students: For the 2026–27 academic year.
  • Exceptional Elementary Students: Late elementary students with a strong math background (e.g., AMC 8 Achievement Roll) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
